services that would have otherwise gone into landfills, dumped illegally into storm drains or fed to livestock. It is an environmentally-friendly alternative to the higher emission petroleum diesel used in large transport vehicles and some cars and trucks. The only by-product of biodiesel is glycerin, which can be easily used to make soap or other products.
Diesel engines can also be run on unmodified vegetable oil (SVO.) Since waste vegetable oil is much more viscous than conventional diesel fuel it must be heated so that it can be properly atomized by the fuel injectors. SVO systems are a very practical proposition is cheaper and more environmentally friendly than turning it into biodiesel.
Until now those who wanted to run their vehicles on Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) had to spend hours upon hours filtering the used oil that they had collected from restaurants. Even the Biodiesel users have found that using clean oil to begin with produces a better end product with less wasted materials.
If you are already running your car on veggie, then by now you have filtered at least some grease. You might have been one of the lucky ones who had a friend that paid an outrageous amount of money to buy a kit that heated, filtered and distributed the oil. Or, if you were like most new greasers, you built a “home-made filter” that consisted of a precariously balanced 2x4, a filter sock and some rope. While this may have worked for the first few filtrations, the truth of the matter is, it is unreliable, slow, and messy.
With over 15 years of filtration experience, this is the product of our research and design. We have stuck with the “K.I.S.S” design, Keep It Simple Stupid; why waste your money on high end pumps, enormous holding vats, and parts that break all the time when you can build a WVO Filtration Unit out of household parts that will last for years to come?
This simple system was designed to be the last wvo filtration system you will ever need. Gone are the days of messy filters hanging from 2x4’s, sticky WVO all over the concrete, and juggling bulky containers to fuel your car. The WVO Filtration Unit can fit in the corner of your garage and will allow you to keep your vehicle filled up with clean vegetable oil even in the chill of winter with just a turn of a valve and the flip of a switch.
Clean fuel is essential to operating converted car reliably; which is why we have done all the work for you in designing an easy to build system to transform waste oil into clean and inexpensive fuel.
Let’s cover what this system does:
This is the part of the WVO filter that removes all the “big stuff” (food particles) from the oil you want to use as fuel. The WVO Filtration Unit uses a 200 micron strainer inside a filter housing to pre-filter the used oil.
Step two of the filtration, the heat filter is a critical part of filtering the used vegetable oil. This is the part that settles out all of the water and hydrogenated oils from the oil you want to use as fuel. The Heater Element heats the oil up to around 180 degrees, where it will stay for about 3 hours, the heater is then turned off and the oil is allowed to settle for 8 hours. This step takes the longest and is considered one of the most important steps. So don’t skip this one.
The WVO Filtration Unit uses 2 inline filters to “polish” the pre-filtered and settled oil. This is where you will use the Whole House Filter housings, 20 micron filter, and 5 micron filter.
This is the final filter, really, this is only here to prevent debris from falling into your clean drum, but you can also use a 1 micron filter bag to hang inside the filter housing.
So, if you’ve filtered oil before, then you have dreaded this part. This is where you use to have to lug a bulky container of filtered oil out to the car and then pour it into the tank. That is now a thing of the past, turn a couple valves, and pump into your car, just like going to the gas station.
